IGD for environmental sustainability
The environmental certifications obtained by IGD and its shopping centres are recognition for the improvement process of environmental performance undertaken by IGD since 2013.
The environmental certifications obtained by IGD and its shopping centres are recognition for the improvement process of environmental performance undertaken by IGD since 2013.
In 2012 IGD began a process in Italy to adopt an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with UNI EN ISO 14001-2015 regulation, with the intention of defining unequivocal environmental performance monitoring and management methods. The aim of IGD Group’s Environmental Management System is to define and implement a working method that protects the environment during the company’s activities, guarantees compliance with the laws in force and establishes a virtuous continuous improvement system. The project involves IGD SIIQ SPA, including the Bologna headquarters, and IGD Service, in the shopping centres.
In 2020 we achieved the 95% certification target we had set, resulting in a more efficient property management system from an environmental point of view, with a consequent improvement in the energy performance of buildings.
The IGD shopping centres certified are 24, in addition to the Bologna headquarters: Centro Lame, Centro Casilino, Centro Luna, Centro La Favorita, Centrosarca, Gran Rondò, I Bricchi, Mondovicino, Conè, Tiburtino Shopping Center, Centro d’Abruzzo, La Torre, Katanè, Le Maioliche, Lungosavio, Clodì, Centro Borgo, Porto Grande ESP, Puntadiferro, Le Porte di Napoli, Città delle Stelle, Leonardo and Maremà.
IGD undertakes not only to extend the boundary of its certified Centers, but also to establish relations with suppliers that comply with the sustainability criteria adopted by the Company: 20% of the suppliers that we stipulate a contract with, are in turn, UNI EN ISO 14001 certified.
The BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification represents one of the most important and recognised international standards for environmental sustainability of buildings and it places particular attention on the overall improvement of the wellbeing of the individuals within the structures.
Obtaining BREEAM certification, for a shopping centre, involves following an environmental assessment protocol which is one of the most used and most important at international level, and which concerns both the construction and restyling phase of the building and the aspects regarding the day to day running of the building itself: indeed, assessment is carried out on parameters such as materials used, the quality of the environment, as well as water and energy consumption and correct waste management. The certification is in fact divided into two parts, each of which is independent and provides for an assessment of the building’s performance (Asset Performance) and an assessment of the building management processes (Building Management).
In July 2016 the Shopping Center Centrosarca in Sesto San Giovanni – Milan, following the restyling work which was completed at the end of 2015, obtained BREEAM the environmental certification BREEAM 2009 Europe, Commercial: Retail, one of the first out of the up and running centres to obtain it in Italy.
Following the positive outcome of the BREEAM certification process for CentroSarca shopping center, we decided to continue along this path. Then in 2018 we obtanied the BREEAM IN-USE certification for the Shopping Centers Tiburtino in Rome and Katanè in Catania. In 2019 also Puntadiferro in Forlì and Esp in Ravenna obtained the certification, while in March 2020 the shopping centers Conè in Conegliano (TV), Leonardo in Imola (BO) and Le Porte di Napoli in Afragola (NA) were certified. In 2022, these certifications were obtained for two more Shopping Centres: Maremà in Grosseto, with the double assessment score of excellent both in asset performance and in building management, and Centro d’Abruzzo in Chieti, with Very Good in Asset Performance and Excellent in building management.
To date, 10 shopping centres are Breeam certified.
In 2023 the process to certify for the first time Casilino Shopping Center in Rome was started and the certification for Sarca Shopping Centre was updated in accordance with the new “version 6” of the standard. In addition the process for the periodic renewal of the certification for Conè Shopping Center (TV), Leonardo Shopping Center (BO) and Le Porte di Napoli Shopping Center (NA) was started with the aim to obtain an upgrade in the assessments.
These certifications are expected to be issued by the relevant body in early 2024.

Following the agreement signed by all the shopping centres in 2016 with their electricity supplier to acquire Green Certificates (G.O Guarantee of Origin), since 2017 IGD headquarters office’s and all the shopping centres’ electricity supply has come exclusively from renewable energy sources, in line with the aim to achieve zero CO2 emissions by 2030.
The energy mix certified by the supplier was made up of wind, hydroelectric, biomass and solar power. Thanks to the use of green energy, 8,3500 tonnes of CO2 were not emitted into the atmosphere in 2023.

We are committed to constantly monitoring the safeguards and protection measures in place aimed at combatting corruption.
To consolidate this committment, in 2018, the Company obtained UNI ISO 37001 – Anti Bribery Management Systems Certification for its Romanian subsidiary Win Magazine SA. This is the only internationally recognized standard that certifies a management system actively involved in preventing and combatting corruption within the corporate environment.
On 20 April 2020, also IGD obtained UNI ISO 37001:2016 “Anti-bribery management system” certification, the international standard for anti-corruption management systems issued by RINA Services S.p.A., an independent certifier accredited by Accredia (a national accrediting entity for certifications and inspections appointed by the government) and the Italian leader in compliance certification.
In 2023 the three-yearly renewal of the UNI ISO37001 anti-bribery certification was obtained.

On 25 November 2022 IGD obtained the BIOSAFETY TRUST CERTIFICATION for the offices located in Bologna, as well as a portfolio of 7 Shopping Centers, CentroSarca in Sesto S. Giovanni (MI), Conè in Conegliano (TV), ESP in Ravenna, Puntadiferro in Forlì, Tiburtino Shopping Center in Rome, Le Porte di Napoli in Naples and Katanè in Catania, already obtained in 2021, to which were added the remaining 18 Shopping Centers, thus covering the entire portfolio of properties.
The certification scheme developed by the accrediting body RINA is the first management model introduced on the market which aims to prevent and minimize the spread of health infections in people caused by biological agents.
The achievement of this Certification from an accredited, impartial body like RINA represents for IGD a further recognition of the quality of the measures implemented in its structures relative to health, safety and preventing the risk of contagion from biological agents (particularly Covid-19).
The certification was renewed for 2023 and it is expected to be confirmed also for 2024, with the possible new versions adapted to the evolution of biohazards.
